How do I choose the right roofing discipline for my placement?
Start from the covering or system on the building: membranes at a pitch of 10 degrees or less are flat roofing, slate and tile are pitched, standing seam and hard metals are metal roofing, and liquid systems, leadwork, green roofs and maintenance each have their own discipline page above. When you post, you pick the discipline and the specific system, and matching works at system level — so choosing the right discipline gets the right specialists notified.
What is the difference between hiring an operative and a subcontractor?
Operatives are individual verified workers hired on a day rate through placements — you pay the agreed rate plus the platform’s sliding fee of 30% for days 1–2, 20% for days 3–7 and 15% from day 8. Subcontractors are verified companies that bid on whole contract packages through tenders, supply and fit or labour only, with a flat 5% platform fee on contract value at completion.
Who sets the day rate on a placement?
You do. Every placement is posted with the day rate you are offering, alongside the discipline, system, location, start date and any certification requirements. Workers see the rate before responding, and the worker always receives the full agreed rate — the platform fee is added on top for the hirer, never deducted from the worker.
How are the roofers on Roofing Source vetted?
Operatives are verified on identity, CSCS card, right to work and declared qualifications before they can respond to placements, and hirers and subcontractor companies are checked against the Companies House register at sign-up. After every placement workers are rated across six categories — punctuality, work standard, attitude, communication, site safety and would-rehire — and consistently low-rated operatives are suspended.
